The transition and history of bingo is fascinating. The game of bingo can be traced all the way back to Europe, more specifically Italy in the 1530s to a type of Italian lottery game. This lottery then extended to the French and the Germans and it was initially used as a game to help a in a child’s education of math and history. When it arrived in the United States, it was called “beano” because it was a country fair game where the numbers would be marked with a bean. These days, not only is this game played in the home as a family game or in nursing homes among residents, but bingo has also extended to the internet. Many game websites offer online bingo for people to play where you don’t use a bean or another type of marker, but instead you click when you have a number. How things change!
